Information for Schools
Old Tailem Town is perfect for any school trip! There is even an historical classroom complete with antique desks in which Peter Squires, the owner and creater of Old Tailem Town will hold lessons.
Firstly, the children are assembled in front of the school where the head master, Mr Squires, holds an assembly and honors and sings "God Save the Queen" and salutes the flag.
The children's hands and shoes are inspected by their teachers and they are marched into school to the beat of a kettle drum where a lesson takes place, explaining the ways people used to get to school in 1881, when the school was built, how they used to write on slate boards and how they used to learn to spell with primmers and a story is told of the different school bags and dress, then.
The children are then shown how disclipline was applied with a cane and the class is handed back to their head teacher who is instructed to let the neatest and straightest rows out first into the village to work on their worksheets.
There are a number of worksheets available from Old Tailem Town that the teachers may find useful in making their students experience at Old Tailem Town both educational and enjoyable!
